How to reset your password on a Hikvision CCTV system
Don’t have the password to your CCTV system? Then you’ll need to reset your password. The following is a guide to resetting your Hikvision DVR / NVR recorder password - and there are X different considerations:
Email: you need to have access to the email address which the Hikvision DVR/NVR recorder is registered to. If you don’t have this, then you can’t reset the password - as an email is required to send a reset temporary password to.
Lock out: if you get the password wrong x7 times in a row, the Hikvision recorder will freeze you out for 60 seconds. After this 60 seconds you can try again.
N.B. if you don’t have the email address to which your CCTV recorder is registered to, then you can’t do anything about it and won’t be able to get into the recorder, and will need to buy a new CCTV DVR / NVR recorder.
One thing you could try is using the default CCTV password which in many cases is ‘admin’.
If you do manage to get the password, here’s the guide to how to log into your CCTV recorder using a password.
How to Log In via a Password
If the device has logged out, you must log in to the device before operating the menu and other functions.
Step 1 Select your User Name in the drop-down list. Figure 3-5 Login Interface.
Step 2 Input password.
Step 3 Click Login to log in.
Forgotten your password to your CCTV recorder?
If you forget the admin password, click Forgot Password to reset the password. An email will be sent automatically to the email address the system has been registered to - use the temporary password in this email to then log-in to the CCTV recorder.
N.B. make sure you change the temporary CCTV password, and also make sure you write down the email address which the recorder is registered to - so you don’t forget!
CCTV recorder locked out?!
If you enter the wrong password into your CCTV recorder too many times the system will lock you out. On Hikvision systems this is seven times in a row - in this case you’ll be locked out for 60 seconds, and then should be able to log back in afterwards.
Default CCTV password
The default password for most CCTV systems is set to ‘admin’. Try using this default password to try to get into your CCTV recorder. If this doesn’t work, then someone must have changed it - and you need to find the email address that the system has been registered to.
